Electrical Engineering Design

PD Engineering Consultancy Ltd provides electrical engineering design as part of a fully integrated, multi-disciplinary offering. We work from our base in Kensworth, near Luton, with main contractors, developers, architects and facilities teams across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Greater London.

Our electrical designs are developed in close coordination with mechanical, civil, structural and fire engineering, so the finished scheme is efficient, compliant and buildable. It suits residential and commercial developments where several disciplines have to fit together without clashes.

What's included

Our electrical engineering services cover:

  • Power distribution design for residential and commercial developments
  • Lighting design coordinated to support usability, safety and architectural intent while meeting performance and compliance criteria
  • Emergency and life-safety systems, integrated with fire strategies developed in line with relevant legislation and guidance
  • Containment coordination with mechanical services and structure
  • Compliance with current regulations and standards

Every design is produced with functionality, energy efficiency, maintainability and future adaptability in mind.

How it works

We keep the process simple and open, so you always know where the design has got to.

  1. Brief. We talk through the project, the constraints and your programme dates.
  2. Concept design. We set out the electrical strategy and the main routes, loads and systems.
  3. Coordination. We work the electrical design alongside mechanical, civil, structural and fire engineering, managing the interfaces between disciplines.
  4. Detailed design. Drawings and documentation are developed to work in fabrication, installation and handover.
  5. Construction support. We stay involved through construction to answer site queries and keep the job moving.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

What standards do you design to?

Our electrical designs are produced in full compliance with current regulations and standards, and fire strategies are developed in accordance with relevant legislation and guidance. Tell us the specific standards named in your project brief and we will confirm how we will meet them.

What deliverables do we get?

You get drawings and technical documentation developed to work in fabrication, installation and handover, from concept through detailed design and construction support. We can agree the exact deliverables list at the brief stage.

Do you coordinate with the other design disciplines?

Yes. Electrical design is developed alongside mechanical, civil, structural and fire engineering, so systems integrate with life-safety requirements and clashes are picked up early rather than on site.

Have you worked with main contractors before?

Yes. We have demonstrated experience supporting Tier 1 contractors and technically complex construction projects, including work for Kier at Watford Riverwell.

Can you support us during construction?

Yes. We provide construction support after the detailed design is issued, so questions from site get answered by the people who did the design.

Why choose us

Because our electrical design does not sit on its own. It is developed with the mechanical, structural and fire engineering at the same time, which manages the interfaces between disciplines, reduces design risk and cuts clashes before they reach site.

  • Multi-discipline engineering support covering design, analysis, fabrication and site delivery
  • Proven project delivery, including experience supporting Tier 1 contractors and technically complex construction projects
  • Advanced engineering analysis, including FEA, frame analysis, lifting studies and thermal modelling
  • Design-to-site focus, so drawings work for the people building from them

As one Tier 1 contractor's project manager put it: "PD Engineering provided clear, buildable engineering solutions that integrated seamlessly with our wider project team. Their technical knowledge and practical approach helped reduce risk and keep the programme moving."

How fees are worked out

Fees depend on the size of the scheme, the disciplines involved and how much construction support you need. Tell us the scope and your programme dates and we will explain clearly how the fee is built up before any work starts, so there are no surprises later.

Book a call

You will deal directly with the engineer working on your project, not a call centre. Ring 07511962098 or email paul@pdengcon.co.uk to talk through your electrical design and the dates you need to hit.
